Minutes of May 2, 2019 Meeting

Opening Ceremony: Sgt/Arms Bill Kiernan opened the meeting at 1858 and opening prayer was given by Acting Chaplain Paul Janes.  15 Detachment Members and one guest was present. 

Roll Call of Officers: Chaplain Mike Harnish was absent.  All others present.

Applications for Membership: Marine Sean Heichlinger was unanimously voted in as a Member; Adj Bryan Westover verified his DD 214 and swore him in.

Minutes from Previous Meeting – 4/4/19 Minutes: Minutes were distributed and reviewed by the membership.  Motion made to accept the minutes as presented by Kiernan, seconded by Janes; there was no discussion; motion passed unanimously. 

Correspondence:  

-National Marksmanship Committee; V.A. Carry the Load Relay; and V.A. Same Day Emergency Mental Health Care information that was received from the Dept Cmdt was read.

-NH Veterans Home’s request for volunteers email was briefed by Cmdt Cody Dumont:

-June 8th: Yard Sale. Volunteers needed from 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM – If interested in helping, volunteers can report there on their own.

-Aug 1st Cruise Night: The Det supported this event last year, physically and financially.  After some discussion, Judge Advocate Reggie LaClair made a motion to support the event with personnel and up to $500 to purchase food.  Motion seconded by Chuck Houston. Discussion consisted of informing the Lakes Region Det, as it’s their area of operation, and that this event will be in lieu of the Det’s August meeting; motion passed unanimously.  

 -Sep 28th: Family Fun Day: Volunteers needed from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM – If interested in helping, volunteers can report there on their own.

Paymaster Report: Report was distributed and reviewed. Motion made to accept the report as presented by LaClair, duly seconded by Sr Vice Cmdt Mark Lindsley.  There was no discussion; motion passed unanimously.  Cmdt Dumont noted that we need to pay for the Deerfield Fair.

Reimbursement.  As is our Detachment’s custom, Westover made motion to reimburse Cmdt Dumont for his Quad State Convention conference fee and room for $140; seconded by LaClair. There was no discussion; motion passed unanimously.  Cmdt Dumont asked that his reimbursement be donated to the funds used for the Veterans’ Home Cruise Night expenses. 

Sick and In Distress:

-Charlie Frey had a fall and was too sore to attend meeting tonight.

-George Noel – status unknown, Adj Westover to try to contact him.

-Ray De Corse – send him a “Thinking of you” card.

Report of Officers:

Armorer – M-1 Repair Status:  Lindsley reported that he ordered leather slings and BFAs.  He still needs to strip the stocks.

– CANCELLED – May 17 – 19 Kiwanis Club Spring Fair, Everett Arena, Concord

– May 19 (Sun) 10:30 AM Breakfast Social, Gilmanton Winery & Vineyard

– May 18 (Sat) 9 AM – Flags on veterans’ graves at Bow Cemeteries. Westover will supervise the Bow Scouts.  No additional support is needed.

– May (Prior to Memorial Day) – Replace the USMC and American Flags at the two monuments in Concord (across street from Abbot-Downing School on South St, and near new Court House Court St): Chuck Houston will take action on this.

– May 27 (Mon) 8:30 AM Concord Memorial Day Parade, Storrs St (float & color guard):

            Float: Westover will prep it and LaClair will drive it in the parade.

            Color Guard: Dumont, Westover and Paul Janes.  Need one more.

            Poolees: Cmdt will ask the Recruiters to see if Poolees will march along with us. 

                        Winters willing to help cook/feed them, if that is something that we might do.

– May 27 (Mon) 3:30 PM –Bow Memorial Day Ceremony (Rifle Salute Detail):

            Rifle Detail: Dumont, Janes, Lindsley.  Possibly Winters and LaClair.  Need others.

– June 20-22 (Thurs-Sat) – Market Days, Main St, Concord (dunk tank & booth)

Westover reserved dunk tank for Friday morning; Kiernan will pick it up.

Tent with sales from 10 AM to 10 PM from Thursday through Saturday.

Dunk Tank from 10 AM to 10 PM from Friday and Saturday only.

Linda and Carol plan to help all 3 days, Bryan on Sat, others are unsure at this time.

– Jun 23 (Sun) 11 AM Dept NH Quarterly Meeting & Growl, American Legion, 7 Perley St, Concord: All are invited and encouraged to attend.

– July 4 (Thurs) Andover Parade (booth and color guard): Volunteers for both needed.

– July 13 (Sat) – Pittsfield Old Home Day (parade and booth)

– July 21 (Sun), 10:30 AM, Breakfast Social at Appleseed restaurant in Bradford.

– Aug 10 (Sat) – Poolee Picnic:  Odell Park in Franklin – EVERYONE is needed for this family fun day for “Old Dogs and New Pups” event – Field Day events, Cook out, Set up of tables, chairs, tents, etc.

– Aug 17 (Sat) – Salute Troops Car Show

– Aug 30-Sept 2 (Fri-Mon) – Hopkinton Fair: Booth selling shirts and recruiting, 7AM-10PM.

– Sep 7 (Sat) 9-5 & Sep 8 (Sun) 9-2, Concord Gun Show @ Everett Arena: sell raffle tickets.

– Sept 26-29 (Thurs – Sun) – Deerfield Fair: Booth selling shirts and recruiting.

Recent Events – after action reports:

– Apr 26-28 – Quad State Convention & Grand Growl, Manchester, NH.

            Well run and good time.  Briefed Marine For Life program, Vets for Warriors, and other items discussed at the business meetings.

Pending Activities: Recruiting Dinner at locations outside Concord area: Not discussed.

b)   Remington Raffle Fundraiser Committee: Lindsley & LaClair reported on April’s Concord Gun Show. $780 in ticket sales in 2 days.  Plus another $160 in sales at Marshall’s.  Approximately 145 tickets sold.

Unfinished Business

-Trailer / Float modifications: Discussed earlier.

-Marines Fighting Hunger food drive: Any funds collected in the “Green Ammo Bucket” at upcoming events will be used for this.  Funds given to a local food pantry.  Cmdt Dumont pledged to personally match all funds collected.  Kudos were given to Cody for creating this program!

New Business: None.

Good of the League:  Next Month’s Meal-6/6/19: Carol volunteered to do the meal, Linda dessert and Dave will bring coffee.
