Minutes of December 6, 2018 Meeting

Opening Ceremony: Acting Sgt/Arms Chuck Houston opened the meeting at 1907 and opening prayer was given by Chaplain Mike Harnish.  13 Detachment Members and one guest were present.

Roll Call of Officers: Cmdt Dumont, Sr Vice Cmdt Standafer, Adj/Paymaster Westover, and Sgt at Arms Bill Kiernan were excused.  All other officers were present.  Jr Vice Mark Lindsley was acting Cmdt for the meeting. Chaplain Mike Harnish was Acting Adjutant.

Applications for Membership: Former Associate Member Susan Nickerson was duly voted in as an Associate Member.  Sue was sworn in by Acting Cmdt Lindsley.

Minutes from Previous Meeting – 11/1/18 Minutes: Minutes were distributed and reviewed by the membership.  Motion made to accept the minutes as presented by Judge Advocate LaClair, seconded by Houston; there was no discussion; motion passed unanimously. 

Correspondence:  None. 

Paymaster Report: Report was distributed and reviewed.  Motion made to accept the report as presented by LaClair, duly seconded by Bob Selig.  There was no discussion; motion passed unanimously.  There were no reimbursement requests. 

Sick and In Distress: Kiernan is in still recovering and wished well by all.

Report of Officers: Harnish talked about a meeting he attended last night regarding storage and use of the Old Town Hall.

Dec 9 (Sun) 11 AM Dept NH Joint Installation Dinner at Puritan, Manchester. – Lindsley and Harnish voiced that they will be attending.  Other Dillon Det Members plan to attend as well.

Dec 16 (Sun) 10:30 AM Breakfast Social, Appleseed restaurant, Bradford.– All are encouraged to attend this strictly social event.  Rides available upon request.

Nov 5 (Sun) Manchester Marathon – Route Marshalls. – Harnish briefed the event.

Nov 10 (Sat) State House for Flag Raising, then breakfast. – Lindsley briefed the events.

Nov 17 (Sat) Concord Holiday Parade – Float, Color Guard, & BBQ.– Good participation -Color Guard Members: Karen Barilani, Michael Harnish, Cody Dumont, Bryan Westover. Float: Reggie LaClair and Bob Selig (plus 2 Poolees); Poolee BBQ / Recruiter farewell: David Winters, Sunny Asburn and many others.

Nov 25: Breakfast Social at Appleseed restaurant in Bradford.

AR-15A2 Fundraiser Committee – Status Report: Jr Vice Cmdt Lindsley briefed: Drawing event has held Nov 10th.  The rifle was transferred on Nov 26th to the winner, Mr. Dale Bishop.

[Adj/Paymaster Westover returned for a Toys for Tots event and assumed the Adjutant position for the remainder of the meeting.]

Unfinished Business

-Trailer / Float modifications: [Tabled until spring]

-Marines Fighting Hunger food drive: Cmdt to contact with grocery stores.

-Dues for 2019: Those that are due can pay by cash, check, and now charge card. 

-Toys for Tots: Adj Westover briefed that the final collection day is Dec 14th.

New Business:

– New Rifle Raffle: Reggie LaClair briefed a proposed new rifle raffle.  This time it would be a Remington 308. The owner of Marshall Firearms in Boscawen has offered to sell us one at wholesale cost of $792.  It has a retail value of $1,000. Has a lifetime warranty.  Recommends 300 tickets at $10 each, which would make over a $2,000 profit.  Marshall’s is willing to sell raffle tickets at their store.  After some discussion, no decision was made.

– Detachment Marine 4 Life Liaison: HQ MCL has reinstated the M4L program and needs Detachment Liaisons.  After an explanation of the program by Westover, Reggie LaClair volunteered to be our Detachment’s M4L Liaison.

Good of the League:  

-Former Members: Sue Nickerson suggested that the Jr Vice Cmdt contact former Members to see about re-joining the League, like her.  The Adj and Cmdt can help with those names.

-Birthday: Det Members sang Happy Birthday to Bob Selig to celebrate his special day today.

-Awards: Ceremonial Guard Ribbons were presented to: Mike Harnish, Reggie LaClair, and Mark Lindsley (2nd award).  

-Next Month’s Meal-1/3/19: Lindsley will provide the meal and LaClair the dessert.

-President’s Own Marine Band: Donna Melanson noticed the band Director is a NH native when watching President Bush’s funeral on T.V.

-Operation Care for Troops: Melanson read a thank you letter she received and briefed how 1,686 boxes were sent to the troops this year through this organization.

Announcements:

-Dec 9 (Sun) 11 AM Dept NH Joint Installation Dinner at Puritan, Manchester, NH.  Four Members present stated that they will be attending.

Closing Ceremony conducted; next meeting January 3, 2019.  The meeting closed at 1958.
