Minutes of October 4, 2018 Meeting

Opening Ceremony: Sgt/Arms Bill Kiernan opened the meeting at 1855 and opening prayer was given by Chaplain Mike Harnish.  16 Detachment Members and two guests were present.

Roll Call of Officers: Sr Vice Cmdt Standafer were excused.  All other officers were present.

Applications for Membership: Norman “Sunny” Ashburn was unanimously voted to accept his membership, then duly sworn in.

Minutes from Previous Meeting – 9/6/18 Minutes: Minutes were distributed and reviewed by the membership.  Motion made to accept the minutes as presented by Kiernan, seconded by Bob Selig; there was no discussion; motion passed unanimously. 

Correspondence:  Adj Westover briefed the DAV’s Mobile Service Office will be in Hooksett 10/18; Thank you letter from Meals for Wheels Car Show helped raise $2,400 and over 350 pounds of food; NH Vet Home Craft Fair on 11/3 needs volunteers.

Paymaster Report: Report was distributed and reviewed.  Adj/Paymaster Westover briefed the report.  Motion made to accept the report as presented by Liz Shaw, duly seconded by Kiernan.  There was no discussion; motion passed.

The following reimbursement requests were discussed:

-Reimbursement for Quilt for Joe Shea’s Daughter: Cody Dumont $387. Motion made to reimburse by Judge Advocate LaClair, seconded by Liz Shaw; there was no discussion; motion passed unanimously. [Quilt was presented to Joe’s daughter, Cindy, prior to the meeting.]

Sick and In Distress: None were reported.

Nov 17 (Sat) 8:30 AM Concord Holiday Parade – T4T themed Float – Color Guard: Dumont, Harnish, Westover, and prospective member, Karen. Float: Pulled by Kiernan, candy distribution by other Members.

Recent Events – after action reports:

Sep 8: Concord Gun Show @ Everett Arena.: Mark Lindsley reported that show was good, but slower than expected, $600 in ticket sales, another $40 tonight.  Thanked Cody & Sunny for their help.

Sep 16: Breakfast Social at Appleseed restaurant in Bradford.– Members met and enjoyed good food and even better company.

Sep 27 thru 30: Deerfield Fair – Event went very well, $600-$700 profit; $610 raised for a Deerfield food pantry and was anonymously matched (another $610) by a Dillon Det member; 30+ names were collected as potential members. Cmdt thanked the many volunteers: Selig, Bill Shaw, Carol Delbridge McLaren, Harnish, Winters, LaClair, Finck, and Westover.

Detachment Marine of the Year (MOY) Committee to be created and meet – Choose Detachment MOY, and, if appropriate, nominate a Department MOY.  Elected Officers will meet after the meeting to disccuss.

AR-15A2 Fundraiser Committee – Status Report: Drawing Event for Nov 10th was discussed at length, with many options proposed.  Ultimately, a Motion made to hold the drawing outside the State House after the flag raising by Kiernan, seconded by Winters; discussion consisted of getting a basket for the drawing, which Houston will provide, motion passed unanimously.

Unfinished Business

-Trailer / Float modifications: The trailer will need to be decorated for the Concord Holiday Magic Parade.  Houston will provide a Christmas tree.  Motion made to purchase decorations and candy, not to exceed $250 by Kiernan, seconded by LaClair; there was no further discussion, motion passed unanimously.

-Marines Fighting Hunger food drive: grocery store suggestions provided to Cmdt.  He will start making contact with them for permission to collect food at their location to donate to a local food pantry.

-Dues for 2019: Those that are due can pay by cash, check, and now charge card.

New Business:

-Proposed Det Bylaw changes received by the Board of Trustees: None were received.

Detachment Rifle Inspections: Completed by Lindsley – all good.

Purchase of parts for Detachment’s M-1 rifles: Lindsley briefed how the rifles are malfunctioning during firing details at funerals, etc. Estimate the replacement costs to be around $345.  Motion made to purchase parts, not to exceed $345 by LaClair, seconded by Ashburn; there was no further discussion, motion passed unanimously.

Deerfield Fair deposit for 2019: Based on this year’s success, Members are willing to schedule this event again next year.  Would prefer a better location next year.  Motion made to pay the 50% deposit of $207.50 for a space and electricity by Liz Shaw, seconded by LaClair; there was further discussion on asking for a better location, motion passed unanimously.

Detachment Officer Nominations:  Nominations were made for the following – Cmdt: Cody Dumont, Sr Vice Cmdt: Mark Lindsley, Jr Vice Cmdt: David Winters, Judge Advocate: Reggie LaClair.  Any further nominations and elections will be at the November meeting.

Call Multiplier Service: Cmdt proposed using a service which records a message and then calls all members, up to 75, an unlimited amount of times for $205 for 12 months.  This will greatly assist getting information to those without email.  Motion made to approve the $205 service for one year by Chuck Winters, seconded by Winters; there was no discussion, motion passed unanimously.

Toys for Tots: Register drop-off site online & bring to Pod location: Westover briefed this year’s program and encouraged other members to participate however they can.

Good of the League:  

-Awards: Emily Roy was presented with her Associate Member pin.  Paymaster Westover announced that an anonymous donation of $100 for upcoming poolee events was received.

-Next Month’s Meal-11/1: USMC Birthday Meal volunteer: Kiernan will make the meal and  Westover will provide the USMC Birthday cake.

-Nov 10 (Sat) 9 AM Breakfast at Windmill Restaurant, 172 Loudon Rd, Concord.

-Nov 11 (Sun) – Veterans Day Proclamation at the State House.

-Nov 11 (Sun) – Veterans Day – Lay wreaths at various Concord locations.

-Nov 11 (Sun) – Veterans Day Ceremony at Veterans’ Cemetery, Boscawen.

-Nov 12 (Mon) 11:30 AM Marine Brigade Luncheon at Best Western Manchester.

-Nov 18 (Sun) 11 AM Quarterly Dept NH meeting and MODD Growl, American Legion, 7 Perley St, Concord.

-Dec 9 (Sun) 12 PM Dept NH Joint Installation Dinner: Elected and appointed Officers are requested to attend, however, all are welcome.

Closing Ceremony conducted; next meeting November 1, 2018.  The meeting closed at 2012.
