Minutes of September 6, 2018 Meeting

Opening Ceremony: Sgt/Arms Bill Kiernan opened the meeting at 1903 and opening prayer was given by Chaplain Mike Harnish.  12 Detachment Members and one guest, Matthew Wieczhalek-Seiler, were present.

Roll Call of Officers: Cmdt Dumont and Sr Vice Cmdt Standafer were excused.  All other officers were present.  Jr Vice Cmdt Lindsley was Acting Cmdt for the meeting.

Applications for Membership: None, but there are two prospects.

Minutes from Previous Meeting – 7/5/18 Minutes: Minutes were distributed and reviewed by the membership.  Motion made to accept the minutes as presented by Kiernan, seconded by Judge Advocate LaClair; there was no discussion; motion passed unanimously. 

Correspondence:  Adj Westover briefed the Veterans Home will have a Family Fun Day on Sep 29th; 2019 Quad State Convention info; thank you letters from Twin Rivers Interfaith Food Pantry for our donation and two from the NH Veterans home for our donation and volunteering; and the Veterans Value Bucks programs for $20 monthly to vets for use at Farmers Markets.

Paymaster Report: Report was distributed and reviewed.  Adj/Paymaster Westover briefed the report.  Motion made to accept the report as presented by Kiernan, duly seconded by LaClair.  There was no discussion; motion passed.

The following reimbursement requests were discussed:

-Reimbursement for Poolee Picnic: Donna Melanson $25.03 for food items, Sunny Ashburn $28 for ice, Cody Dumont $515.67 for food, drinks, games, gear, etc. Motion made to reimburse all mentioned by LaClair, seconded by David Winters; there was no discussion; motion passed unanimously.

-Reimbursement for National Convention Program Ad $17.50 to Mark Lindsley.  Motion made to reimburse the $17.50 by LaClair, seconded by David Winters; discussion included that Lindsley donated the other half of the $35 ($17.50); motion passed unanimously.

-Cmdt Dumont directed Chaplain Harnish to purchase diapers and clothing for the Concord Marine Recruiter’s new born baby, which the Cmdt is permitted to do under the Marine in need section of our By-laws.  No vote is needed.  Chaplain Harnish will be reimbursed the $28.12.

Sick and In Distress: None were reported [Adjutant forgot to report that Bill Shaw was not feeling well, so he and his daughter, Liz, will not did not attend the meeting.]

Pending Activities: Recruiting Dinner at locations outside Concord area: Members encouraged to contact the Cmdt with restaurant ideas.

Upcoming Events:

Sep 8 (Sat) 9 AM-5 PM & Sep 9 (Sun) 9 AM-2 PM, Concord Gun Show @ Everett Arena – Need volunteers at the table to assist Lindsley.

Sep 16 (Sun) – 10 AM Breakfast Social at Appleseed restaurant in Bradford for any and all that are interested.

Sep 27, 28, 29, 30 (Thurs – Sun) – Deerfield Fair– Need volunteers at the table.  Some Members volunteered to assist and will contact Cmdt Dumont for days and times.

Recent Events – after action reports:

July 14 – Pittsfield Old Home Day (parade and booth): Cody & family raised $42 for Pittsfield Food Bank.

Aug 2 – BBQ & Cruise Night – Tilton Veterans Home: Many Dillon Det helpers; Special thanks given to David Winters on the Grill.

Aug 11 – Poolee Cookout, Odell Park, Franklin

Kudos to Volunteers: David -cooking, beans, gas, watermelon, cleaned grill,  Sunny -cooking & prep, traffic cones, ice; Carol, Donna and Melissa – prep and serving; Carol – donated games; Chuck – tables and chairs; set up – Chuck, Reggie, Bryan, Jared; Event coordinators: Liz & Bill Shaw, Mike Harnish; Tents – Bryan, Cody, LeClair;

Aug 18 – Dunbarton Old Home Day – Westover pulled the float and Cmdt Dumont manned the tent in the rain.

 

AR-15A2 Fundraiser Committee – Status Report: Drawing Event on Nov 10th?

Status Report given by Lindsley: Another $20 in raffle ticket sales were received. Approximately 170 tickets left to sell.  Next gun show is Sep 8-9.  Options for the Nov 10th raffle drawing were discussed, including Winters volunteering to cook a spaghetti and meatball dinner.  A decision will be made at the October meeting.

Unfinished Business

-Trailer / Float modifications: The trailer storage area needs to be enlarged to fit all the parts and equipment. Cmdt Dumont and Westover to work on it.

-Marines Fighting Hunger food drive – Need grocery store suggestions!  Also, Cmdt Dumont worked at a car show that helped raise $2,400 and hundreds of pounds of food for a local pantry.

New Business:

-Proposed Det Bylaw changes to be submitted in writing to Board of Trustees: Members informed that they must submit any proposed changes to the Board of Trustees before the Oct meeting.

-Quad State Convention (NH 2019) – Request each Det donate $50 for raffle: Instead of a raffle for the “wagon of booze” which is traditionally done, this year it will be a cash prize.  All Dets in the Dept are asked to donate towards it.  Motion made to donate $50.00 by LaClair, seconded by Harnish; no discussion; motion passed unanimously.

-Hometown Heroes Banners Presentation by Matthew Wieczhalek-Seiler: Matt briefed his very patriot program that honors veterans, both alive and deceased, by hanging banners in downtown streets including Concord.  He was not seeking donations at this time, just promoting the program and looking for community support and Concord veterans for the banners.  The banners cost approximately $125 each.

-Dues for 2019: Dues are $32 per year and due every August.  Cmdt will be sending an email with the option to pay electronically (which will have a surcharge) or can be paid by cash at a meeting or by check though the mail.

Good of the League:

-Next Month’s Meeting & Meal – 10/4/18: Dave Winters volunteered to make beef stew and dessert.

Closing Ceremony conducted; next meeting October 4, 2018.  The meeting closed at 2007.
