Minutes of July 5, 2018 Meeting

Opening Ceremony: Sgt/Arms Bill Kiernan opened the meeting at 1903 and opening prayer was given by Chaplain Mike Harnish.  13 Detachment Members were present.

Roll Call of Officers: Sr Vice Cmdt Standafer was absent and Judge Advocate LaClair was excused.  All other officers were present.

Applications for Membership: We have two prospects.

Minutes from Previous Meeting – 6/7/18 Minutes: Minutes were distributed and reviewed by the membership.  Motion made to accept the minutes as presented by Kiernan, seconded by Harnish; there was no discussion; motion passed unanimously. 

Correspondence:  Adj Westover briefed the Manchester VA Open House email received from the Dept Cmdt; and the thank you email from LtCol Antonio of the Winnacunnet H.S. Marine JROTC unit for the $100 donation.  

Paymaster Report: Report was distributed and reviewed.  Adj/Paymaster Westover briefed the report.  Motion made to accept the report as presented by Kiernan, duly seconded by Liz Shaw.  There was no discussion; motion passed.

The following reimbursement requests were discussed:

-Cmdt Cody Dumont to be reimbursed for the trailer supplies and materials totaling $307.72.  Motion made to reimburse Cmdt Dumont $307.72 by Bob Selig, seconded by Kiernan; there was no discussion; motion passed unanimously.  Cmdt Dumont directed that the entire reimbursement be donated to the Poolee Event Fund.

-Cmdt Dumont informed that the $35 fee for the Andover Independence Day booth was taken out of the cash box.  The fee was already approved at the April meeting, so no vote is required.

Sick and In Distress: None were reported!

Report of Officers. Quartermaster report: Kiernan stated that the collection did not go well.  He only collected the grill, some flags and the bullhorn.  The Iron Mike silhouette used for past floats is at Donna Melanson’s house – Cmdt Dumont will arrange to pick it up.

  • Recruiting Dinner at locations outside Concord area: Not discussed.

Upcoming Events:

July 14 – Pittsfield Old Home Day: We will use the float in the parade and Cmdt Dumont will set up the booth at 7 AM.  Others offered to assist.

July 15 – Breakfast Social at Appleseed Restaurant: 10 AM in Bradford.

Aug 2 – BBQ & Cruise Night @ Tilton Veterans Home: Cmdt briefed the event – car show and cookout for the resident veterans. Dillon Det could donate funds for food, cook, and assist residents see the cars. After some discussion, there was a motion made to donate $350 for food, with the proceeds to go the Veterans Home by Kiernan, seconded by Liz Shaw; there was no further discussion; motion passed unanimously.  Members volunteered to help cook, assist residents, and with registration.  Because this is on the first Thursday of the month, there will be no August meeting.

Aug 11 – 10 AM to 3 PM – Poolee Cookout: @ Odell Park, Franklin.  Cmdt was informed by the recruiters that this as a mandatory event for the Poolees, could be up to 150 people, so we need all hands to help.  Ideas for games, activities, structure, and volunteer needs were discussed.  Cmdt will send out an email to set up a committee meeting to finalize the details.

Aug 18 – Dunbarton Old Home Day: Not discussed.

Sep 8 & 9 – Concord Gun Show @ Everett Arena: Not discussed.

Sep 27, 28, 29, 30 (Thurs – Sun) – Deerfield Fair: Paymaster to send in the registration fee. We will be selling t-shirt from Leathernecks for Life, like was done at the Concord Market Days.

Recent Events – after action reports:

June 21-23 – Concord Days Booth & Dunk Tank: Thurs & Fri were great, Sat chilly – Sat the only day with dunk tank.  Next year reserve dunk tank for all 3 days.  Still made a profit.

June 24 – Dept of NH Meeting: Cmdt Dumont went over the highlights of the meeting:

*Building Dreams for Marines – The Dept of NH donated $250. After some discussion of how worthy the cause is, there was a motion made to donate $100 to Dreams for Marines by Liz Shaw, seconded by Selig; there was no further discussion; motion passed unanimously. 

            *Dept of NH Cmdt’s Raffle: Ticket stubs and funds collected so far are to be turned in.

*Membership dues are to be submitted to the Dept of NH by Aug 1st.  Cmdt will utilize “Square” software to allow members to pay electronically.

June 30 – Bradford Independence Day Parade: Thanks to Kiernan for pulling the float.

July 4 – Andover Parade & Booth: Sunny Ashburn (prospective member) pulled the float. Color Guard by Dumont, Harnish, Westover, & Karen (last name?) – prospective member.  Marines Fighting Hunger raised approximately $50 and some food for the Twin Rivers Interfaith Food Pantry.  Members asked to provide other grocery store locations to the Cmdt.

AR-15A2 Fundraiser Committee – Status Report given by Lindsley: Another $20 in raffle ticket sales were received. Next gun show is Sep 8-9.

Unfinished Business

-Trailer / Float preparation – Status Report: Cmdt briefed that Steve Opett, Bryan Westover, Sunny Ashburn, Bill Kiernan, Reggie LaClair, Cody, and his son got the float ready for the parades.

-Marines Fighting Hunger food drive: Discussed earlier.

New Business: None.

-Next Month’s Meeting & Meal – 9/6/18: Bill Kiernan offered to bring the meal.

Closing Ceremony conducted; next meeting September 6, 2018.  The meeting closed at 2012.
