Minutes of October 5, 2017 Meeting

 

  • Opening Ceremony: Acting Sgt/Arms Mark Lindsley opened the meeting at 1857 and opening prayer was given by Chaplain Mike Harnish. 13 Detachment Members present.
  • Roll Call of Officers: Sgt/Arms Bill Kiernan was excused and Jr Vice Steve Opett was absent. All other officers were present.
  • Applications for Membership: No new Membership applications at this time, but we did receive a request for transfer to our Detachment – Regular Member Milton Pettengill from the Ash-Risley Det # 761.
  • Minutes from Previous Meeting -9/7/17 Minutes: Minutes were distributed and reviewed by the membership. Motion made to accept the minutes as presented by Lindsley, duly seconded by Bob Selig; there were two corrections made; motion passed unanimously to accept the minutes as edited. 
  • Correspondence:
    1. Dept of NH Cmdt E-mails: discussed A) 990 Forms to be completed and accepted copy sent to Dept NH Paymaster. B) Annual Life Membership Audits need to be completed and forwarded to Dept NH Paymaster. C) Upcoming events for October and November.
    2. Info from 9/24/17 Dept of NH Meeting: Cmdt briefed that National will no longer send annual dues reminders to Members, it will be up to the Detachments. Dues have been recommended to be paid first by the Det and collected later from the Members. Cmdt will draft a letter for dues reminders.
  • Paymaster Report: Report was distributed and reviewed. Adj/Paymaster Bryan Westover briefed the report.  Motion made to accept the report as presented by Lindsley, duly seconded by Bob Selig; brief discussion on going over budget on AR-15 Raffle fundraiser expenses but have made a profit of over $500 so far; motion passed Motion made to expend funds to the AR-15 Raffle fundraiser by paying for future gun show table and entrance fees by Selig, duly seconded by Lindsley. There was no further discussion; motion passed unanimously
  • Sick and In Distress: Westover reported that Joe Shea is still getting treatments and had hoped to make it to tonight’s meeting. No others reported.
  • Report of Officers:
  1. a) Installation of Jr Vice Cmdt – Not discussed.
  2. b) Recent events:                                                                                                                                     i) Sept 9 & 10 – Everett Arena Gun Show, AR-15 Rifle Raffle Ticket sales and recruiting: Event went well, met Marines, and sold a good amount of raffle tickets.                                               ii) Sept 10 – Marine Monument for Cadets, 2017 Youth Training Day: Kudos were given to Bob Selig and Bill Shaw for manning the monument and answering questions.                      iii) Sept 10 – Rifle Detail for the 100 Nights of Remembrance: Cody Dumont and Reggie LaClair participated in the rifle detail.
  • Report of Committees
    1. Activity Committee
      1. Scheduled and Pending Events: The below items were discussed:
        1. TBD Poolee Function/Cookout: Cmdt to try to get Poolees and prospective Members here for our November meeting and Birthday Ceremony.
        2. TBD – Uno’s Pizza Fund raising: Not discussed.
      2. Other Events and Activities
        • TBD Recruiting Dinner at locations outside Concord area. Not discussed.
        • Attend future Poolee Meetings, Thursdays at 5:00 PM, Marine Recruiting Office, Loudon Rd, Concord – Invitation is always open to us to attend.
      3. AR-15A2 Fundraiser Committee – Status Report –Lindsley reported that the raffle is going good, and has collected another $80 in ticket sales since the Concord Gun Show.
      4. Detachment Marine of the Year (MOY) Committee to be created and meet – Choose Detachment MOY & a Department MOY nominee: Board of Trustees will meet immediately following tonight’s meeting.
  • Unfinished Business
  • Detachment Shirts: Costs are: S-XL $31.50, XXL $33.75, 3X-4X $36.25. Cmdt to check on Bud Durling’s medium-sized shirt, already paid for but hasn’t received.
  • Repair (welding) of trailer for the Iwo Jima float – Status Report: Opett to solicit businesses to donate steel for the repairs, however Sr Vice Standafer stated that he has enough steel to do the job. Standafer, Opett and Dumont will coordinate to get the trailer repaired before the November parade in Concord.
  • New Business
    1. Proposed Detachment Bylaw changes received by the Board of Trustees: None.
    2. Detachment Rifle Inspections: Tabled to November’s meeting for the 3 rifles to be inspected.
    3. Detachment Officer Nominations:the following nominations were made: Cmdt-Cody Dumont; Sr Vice Cmdt-Michael Standafer; Jr Vice Cmdt- Mark Lindsley; Judge Advocate-no nominations received; Chaplain-Michael Harnish; Sgt-At-Arms-Bill Kiernan; Adjutant/ Paymaster-Bryan Westover.
    4. Quad State Program Ad: discussed the 2018 Quad State in VT ad for program to help defray the costs; past ads; and Dept ad; ad format and costs. Upon completion of the discussion, Standafer made a motion for the Det to have a half-page black and white ad, cost of $75, duly seconded by Judge Advocate Liz Shaw. There was no further discussion; motion passed Ideas for ad design to be discussed at next month’s meeting.
  • Good of the League
    1. Next Month’s Meal-11/2: USMC Birthday Meal by Bill Kiernan & Bryan Westover will bring the Birthday cake. Cmdt and Chaplain will work together to invite Marines from local VFWs.  Standafer was thanked for providing a wonderful Mexican dinner.
    2. Donna Melanson briefed a letter from Operation Care For Troops (formerly Moore-Mart). Holiday stocking event will be 15-18 November. Adj to email details to Members.
    3. Members requested that we distribute a roster of Members and contact info.
  • Announcements
    1. Department of NH Meeting (1100) & Growl (1400) – October 29, 2017 @ American Legion, Concord.
    2. Toys for Tots will start distributing boxes from Oct 17 through Nov 4: Cmdt would like boxes in Towns outside the Concord area in schools, etc – toy events and flyers home to get the Marine Corps League name out in the public. Members to email Cmdt Dumont with names of schools, churches, etc.
    3. Birthday Ball(s) – Seacoast ball – Nov 4 American Legion; others…
    4. Nov 10th – 0730 @ State House for Flag Raising.
    5. Nov 10th – 1130 Marine Brigade Luncheon in Bedford/Manchester area.
    6. Nov 11th – Veterans Day Proclamation at the State House.
    7. Nov 11th – Veterans Day – Lay wreaths at various Concord locations.
    8. Nov 11th – Veterans Day Ceremony at Veterans’ Cemetery Boscawen.
    9. Saturday before Thanksgiving – Concord Holiday Parade (Nov 18th)
    10. Dec 3rd – Joint Installation
    11. 2018 Quad State Convention in Burlington, VT, April 20th-22nd, 2018
  • Closing Ceremony conducted; next meeting November 2, 2017. The meeting closed at 1946.
