Minutes of February 2, 2017 Meeting

  1. Opening Ceremony: Acting Sgt/Arms Mark Lindsley opened the meeting at 1850 and opening prayer was given by Chaplain Mike Harnish. There were 13 Detachment Members present.
  2. Roll Call of Officers: Sr Vice Jacques Hachez and Sgt at Arms Kevin Miller were excused. Jr Vice Steve Opett was absent. All other officers were present.
  3. Applications for Membership: Cmdt Cody Dumont is working on two potential Members; one planned for tonight couldn’t make it; utilizing Concord Patch and Facebook as recruiting tools.
  4. Installation of Jr Vice, Judge Advocate, and Sgt at Arms: Tabled.
  5. Minutes from Previous Meeting – 1-5-17 Minutes: Minutes were distributed and reviewed by the membership. Motion made to accept the minutes as presented by Ray DeCorse, duly seconded by Lindsley; no discussion; motion passed
  6. Correspondence: None.
  7. Paymaster Report: Report was distributed and reviewed by the membership. Adj/Paymaster Bryan Westover gave a detailed explanation, motion by Judge Advocate Liz Shaw to accept the Paymaster’s Report as presented, second by Harnish.  There was no discussion; motion passed
  8. Sick and In Distress: Cmdt and Adj briefed the Det on Sr. Vice Jacques Hachez’s illness. Discussed providing meals, if family desires; showing appreciation for Hachez’s contributions to the Det and his many volunteer hours; motion by Lindsley to purchase and present him with a shadow box, second by George Noel; there was no further discussion; motion passed Others: Joe Shea’s wife is home now; Noel’s wife is doing okay; Donna Melanson is now recovering at home and hopes to attend the next meeting.
  9. Report of Officers
    1. 1/15/17 Department of NH Meeting Notes:Cmdt briefed the Dept of NH’s fundraising ideas – portions of Det fundraisers to go to Dept, doing joint ventures with multiple Dets to support Dept, Cmdt Dumont will now host the Dept website saving hundreds of dollars each year.
    2. Quad State Convention Program Ad – purchase a half-page ad from the Det and use it to honor Members Fred Osgood and Jacques Hachez.
  10. Report of Committees
    1. Activity Committee: Cmdt explained the Committee’s goal is to be seen and attract Marines.
      1. Dinner near Liz Shaw’s House: More info next meeting – restaurant/recruiting.
      2. Proposed Event Dates
        1. Mar 3– Bow High School Basketball Game – Giving MVP awards: last home game of season, awards for leadership. Uniform Red Blazer or MCL Casual uniform.
        2. May 20 – Bow Car Show (recruiting and fund Raiser): Members to provide Cmdt with ideas of items to sell – lapel pins, coins, etc.
        3. June 22 – 24 – Concord Days: have a booth at the fair.
        4. July 4 – Andover Parade – this year’s focus is on WWII and wars since (float, color guard, Poolees (?)): Kevin Miller’s family has a 1960’s era USMC Jeep that we can use to pull our Iwo Jima float [need to verify it has a 2” ball hitch]. Older Members can ride and younger Members can be a Color Guard.
        5. July 8 – Newbury Old Home Day (parade): Float and or Color Guard.
        6. July 22 – Pittsfield Old Home Day (parade and booth): Float and or Color Guard.
        7. Sept 1-4 – Hopkinton Fair: Recruiting and fundraising booth. Must be manned all 4 days from 0700 to 2100. Members asked to take shifts.
        8. Sept 9 – NHTI Concord Car Show (booth): Recruiting booth.
      3. Other Things talked about
        1. Bowling Night- Concord: Family events – one night a month during the 3rd or 4th week of the month. More info to come.
        2. Marines Night American Legion Post 31, Penacook (Date TBD): Recruiting event – “Sign here – free beer”. Motion by Shaw to purchase a roll of stamps for recruiting purposes, second by Lindsley; discussed benefits of “Forever” stamps; motion passed
        3. Lake Winnipesauke Dinner Cruise (~Aug): Not discussed.
  1. Farewell Dinner Planning for Poolees going to Boot Camp
    1. Mar 18 – Need confirm with recruiters: Old Town Hall has been reserved. $100 anonymous donation received for the meal. Cmdt will get with Recruiters.
    2. Attend future Poolee Meetings: More info to come.
  1. [NEW ITEM] – Discussed that the Yard Sale Committee will disband until it may be needed again. Discussed holding a pancake breakfast for fundraiser with portion to go to Dept. – item tabled.
  1. Unfinished Business
    1. Detachment Shirts: Cmdt awaiting reply from t-shirt company.
    2. Department Dues Increase – Dept tabled this item until its March meeting
    3. American Flag Certificates – now on hand: Members to provide Westover with names of companies or individuals to have certificates printed before the next meeting.
    4. [NEW ITEM] M-1 Fundraiser: Lindsley gave some info on the fundraiser that he’s willing to take charge of. Dumont made a motion and DeCorse seconded it to purchase an M-1 and print raffle tickets. Discussion asked for more details than could be provided right now.  The motion and second were rescinded – no vote taken.  Item tabled to March or April meeting to gather additional information.
    5. [NEW ITEM] Ceremonial Ribbon: Discussion held on the requirements, time frame, who may be eligible, the Dept’s request for a list. Shea and Westover will take action to determine eligibility and a list of qualified Members.
  2. New Business
    1. Key to Old Town Hall: Mike Harnish volunteered to sign for the key for our Detachment.
    2. Vice Cmdt: Jacques Hachez will not be attending future meeting. Cmdt asked for volunteer to fill the now vacant position.  Mark Lindsley volunteered, until there’s a permanent replacement.
  3. Good of the League
    1. Map of Dillon Detachment area of responsibility: Map was distributed. Cmdt explained how we will try to cover more of our area with future events.
    2. Next Month’s Meal: Carol McLaren volunteered herself and Donna Melanson to make next month’s meal and dessert.
  4. Announcements
    1. Department Meeting (1100) & Growl (1400) – Mar 26, 2017 @ American Legion, Concord (Elections for Dept Officers & Pack Officers): Info distributed and discussed. ALL Members are encouraged to attend.
    2. Boscawen Cemetery Memorial Day Ceremony – MCL in charge this year, Monday, May 29th. Volunteers needed for Color Guard and other details: Please inform the Dept Cmdt Cherrie Monnell if you can help. Cmdt Dumont offered his help.
    3. Quad State Convention and Northeast Conference (& Grand Growl) – April 21-23, 2017 @ Newport, RI: ALL Members are encouraged to attend. Many Members voiced their pleasure at past Quad States. Cmdt will be attending and is willing to share his room – let him know if you’re interested.
    4. [NEW ITEM] Manchester H.S. daytime Memorial Day event on May 26 – honor guard volunteers needed. Contact the Granite State Det if interested.
  5. Closing Ceremony was conducted and the next meeting is scheduled for March 1, 2017. The meeting closed at 2030.
